Rehabilitative Services

The Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center offers excellence in comprehensive rehabilitation services to individuals with disabilities to reach their fullest potential and to facilitate their transition from Baptist Health to family and community. The rehabilitation multi-disciplinary team provides state-of-the-art care for the resident’s physical and psycho-social needs.

Physical Therapy

Our experienced physical therapists design individual exercise and treatment programs to restore strength, flexibility, and endurance. A wide range of therapeutic treatments is emphasized to improve circulation, strengthen muscles, improve balance and encourage the highest level of functional mobility. While at Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, staff works closely with the resident to stimulate and progress to achieve their maximum level of independent function. When it’s possible for the resident to return home, the staff works closely with the family to ensure a smooth transition. Home evaluations are done to assess the need for any modifications, equipment and/or services prior to discharge.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy assists residents with physical and cognitive disabilities to participate in their daily life activities at the most independent level. Occupational Therapists are trained in safety and in the use of assistive devices to maximize independence and prevent injury. All residents admitted to the facility will have an evaluation to determine need for services. Such daily life skills as bathing, dressing, eating, cooking, cleaning and other household skills are addressed.

Speech Therapy

Residents with communication and/or swallowing disorders arising from neurological damage, commonly caused by disabilities such as stroke and head trauma, are evaluated and treated by our speech and language pathologist.

VitalStim® Therapy System

We are pleased to offer the VitalStim® Therapy System for our residents and patients who have difficulty swallowing.

The VitalStim® Therapy System is a safe and effective treatment for patients suffering with difficulty swallowing or dysphagia. It was developed in response to the 15 million Americans living with dysphagia today.

The VitalStim® Therapy System is a non-invasive, external electrical stimulation therapy cleared to market by the Food and Drug Administration in 2002 for the treatment of dysphagia with application on the anterior neck. The VitalStim® Therapy System is designed as an adjunct modality, meaning a clinician will apply VitalStim while simultaneously working with the patient on swallowing exercise.
